What a 10L pack carries

A 10L pack holds the basics for a short hike or a fast day out. Think water bottle, a light layer, snacks, phone, and keys. It is not built to carry a full day of gear or a sleeping bag.

Many 10L packs are made to fold into their own pocket when empty. That makes them easy to stash in a larger bag for travel or keep in a car for spontaneous walks. Some have a crossbody or shoulder strap instead of a full harness.

Nylon is common because it is light and packs down small. A packable 10L daypack often has a single main compartment and a small zip pocket for keys or a phone. Some have a chest strap to keep the pack from bouncing.
