What a 25L pack carries on a hike

A 25L hiking backpack holds enough for a full day on the trail: layers, lunch, water, and a small first aid kit. The size sits between a minimal summit pack and an overnight bag. Samples in this range run from 22L to 27L, with most labeled 24L or 25L.

A 24L men’s pack and a 24L women’s pack use the same volume but different harness geometry. A 22L women’s-specific pack and a 23L women’s-specific pack are sized for shorter torsos. The 26L and 27L versions add a few liters for bulkier layers or a larger water reservoir.

How 25L packs are built

At this size, packs use a fixed or adjustable suspension with a padded hipbelt and shoulder straps. Ventilated back panels appear on several samples, including a 26L and a 27L version. A 24L packable option folds into its own pocket and uses lightweight water-resistant fabric instead of a framed suspension.

Lid pockets, side compression straps, and dual water bottle pockets are common. The 25L unisex pack and the 24L men’s pack use top-loading or panel-loading access. A 23L women’s pack for biking uses a shorter back length and narrower shoulder straps.

The volume is the same, but the harness differs. Women’s-specific packs use a shorter torso length and narrower shoulder straps. Men’s packs use a longer torso and wider strap spacing.

Does a 25L pack have a hipbelt?

Most 25L hiking packs include a padded hipbelt to transfer weight to your hips. The 24L packable option uses a lightweight webbing belt instead of a padded one. A padded hipbelt makes a noticeable difference when the pack is fully loaded.

Can a 25L pack work for biking?
